Karori Wildlife Centre - Rotary Centennial Discovery Project (click)

The Karori Wildlife Sanctuary is the world's first inner city predator-free environment situated just 2Km from the centre of Wellington. The Sanctuary has long been supported by Rotary through the leadership of the Rotary Club of Karori. Click on the heading to visit the pages announcing The Rotary Centennial Discovery Area project, which has been adopted by all Rotary Clubs in the Wellington city area as their Rotary Centennial project.

Porirua Skateboard Project (click)

At District 9940 Changeover in June 2000, the Rotary Club of Plimmerton was awarded a Significant Achievement Award for its efforts in developing the local Porirua Skateboard Park.

Prior to the park opening, members of the Plimmerton club worked to complete the landscaping, building all access paths and a number of fences around the site. This involved about 30 Rotarians, some partners, two inward exchange students, and a number of local skateboarders from the area.

Reading Assistance in Schools

In 2001, the Rotary Club of Fitzroy adopted a 'Reading Assistance in Schools' project that had been successfully implemented earlier in Wanganui. Rotarian Don Taylor, a retired school principal, describes how Fitzroy established a very successful, and expanding programme in New Plymouth.

The Hutt River Trail (click)

The Hutt River Trail starts at the eastern end of Marine Parade on the Petone Foreshore. You can, however, enter at many points along the trail from here to Upper Hutt, 24 km away.
