Humanitarian Grants Print E-mail

Rotary Foundation and RNZWCS Ltd Humanitarian Grants

There are two principal opportunities for grants to be sought by clubs seeking to undertake overseas humanitarian projects. The choice depends on a number of factors including the scope of the project and the nature of the overseas partner.

Grants assist Clubs/Districts to carry out humanitarian international service projects with Rotarians in another country. Grants applications are processed by the District Rotary Foundation Committee and submitted  to the Rotary Foundation.

Grants include help improve the quality of life of the less fortunate and fostering international friendship and understanding.

These grants are administered through RNZWCS Ltd.

Although projects for which these grants are sought may originate from, or in conjunction with, an overseas Rotary club the overseas club is not perceived to be the recipient organisation by KOHA-PICD. Rather, the partner club is regarded as being the agent of the sponsor club and serves as the link to the community partner. KOHA-PICD grants, which are administered by the NGO Community on behalf of NZAID, offer a subsidy of four dollars for each dollar contributed.

The RNZWCS Ltd web site contains a number of simple guides to assist clubs with the understanding of the process, the design of projects and the preparation of grant applications. Go to www.rnzwcs.rotary.org.nz and scroll down to Applying for a KOHA-PICD Grant – Site Map. This refers to the guide notes which will lead clubs through the application process culminating in a questionnaire which must be completed for discussion with the District RNZWCS Ltd. Director who will guide through the formal application.

Rotary Foundation District Simplified Grants

These grants allow access to Rotary Foundation funding to support service activities or humanitarian endeavours in a club’s own district.

Our District can allocate up to 20% of its available District Designated Funds each year in the form of District Simplified Grants. These funds can be used to subsidise club projects. The following guidelines will apply:

  1. Applications are to be for a maximum of $NZ 1,500.
  2. As the projects approved during this Rotary year will only become eligible to receive subsidies after 1 July 2009 applications may not be for projects which have already been completed.
  3. Individual club applications, which are approved, will receive a $1.00 allocation for every $2.00 they raise for local projects.
  4. Local projects which are approved and which are being undertaken by two or more clubs will receive $1.50 for every $2.00 the clubs raise.
  5. Overseas projects will be encouraged to seek Matching Grants. Matching Grant projects do not qualify for District Simplified Grants.
  6. Project Applications are to be sent to the chair of the World community Service sub committee, Bill Joyce, for initial evaluation. The final allocation will be made in conjunction with the Governor Elect, District Grants Committee Chair and the District Chair of the Rotary Foundation. The District will then make the formal application to The Rotary Foundation
  7. All clubs must use the attached form when applying. Applications must be received no later than 30 January 2006. Further information may be sought from applicants during the evaluation process.
  8. Interim reports are required every six months for the duration of the project. A final report is required within 2 months of the full expenditure of grant funds and no later than 12 months after the grant has been made. The final report must provide details of expenditure, extent of Rotarian involvement, details of the implementation of the project, and lessons learned.
  9. For further details on District Simplified Grants go to www.rotary.org and enter District+Simplified+Grants in the search function.
