The Rotary Foundation Print E-mail

There are two principal avenues for clubs to access international service projects. These are The Rotary Foundation and Rotary New Zealand World Community Service [RNZWCS Ltd].

The Rotary Foundation is a not for profit corporation which supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programmes. The Foundation’s humanitarian programmes help fund international Rotary Club and District projects to improve the quality of life, providing health care, clean water, food, education and other essential needs primarily in the developing world.

Through its educational programmes the foundation provides funding for 1,200 students to study abroad each year. Grants are also awarded to university teachers to teach in developing countries and for short term exchanges of young business and professional people.

The Rotary Foundation is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the foundation who share its vision. The 2008–20098 target for District 9940 is $NZ100 per member average. There are several avenues for giving such as direct contributions, special club projects, Benefactors and becoming a Centurion. Details are available from the Area Co-ordinators.

The Rotary Foundation is one avenue for obtaining support for humanitarian projects. Another source is the Voluntary Agencies Support Scheme [VASS] which provides funding support from the NZ Government. This is accessed through the Rotary NZ World Community Service Ltd. Committee.

Future Vision Plan Model

The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation, supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. It is registered in the USA as an International Charitable Trust. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Its motto is simply “Doing Good in the World”.

In 2008, The Rotary Foundation Trustees adopted the Future Vision Plan (FVP), a forward-looking, strategic approach to fulfilling the Foundation’s mission. District 9940 has been selected as a Pilot District to undertake a three-year test of the new grant funding structure from 1 July 2010, prior to the full Rotary-wide implementation in 2014. Pilot districts have agreed to follow the new grant structure and associated management process introduced by The Future Vision Plan, and will not participate in any of the ‘traditional’ Foundation programmes, with the exception of PolioPlus and the Rotary Centres for International Centers for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution. One hundred of 532 districts worldwide have been selected for the FVP pilot. District 9940 is the sole New Zealand district in the pilot scheme.

The Future Vision Plan offers two types of grants: District Grants and Global Grants.
