2010-11 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships

Calling for Applications

A great opportunity exists for clubs in District 9940 to promote the benefits of an Academic-Year Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship. Applications close on 30 June 2009. The successful Scholar will take up their award in the 2010-2011 Rotary year which relates to the northern hemisphere’s academic year. 800 awards are made each year. The scholarships are much sought-after and The Rotary Foundation needs considerable lead time in the selection process. No study can begin before 1 July 2010 and no funding will be issued for study commenced prior to this date.

The Academic-Year Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship is for one academic year abroad and provides funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, some educational supplies, and language training (if necessary), up to a maximum award of US$25,000 or its equivalent.

The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships program is the world’s largest privately sponsored international scholarship program. Focused on humanitarian service, international understanding, and academic excellence, the Ambassadorial program has sponsored more than 40,000 Rotary scholars abroad since it began in 1947. District 9940 has successfully sponsored over 70 scholars in that time.

All scholarship applicants must be endorsed by a Rotary Club in Rotary District 9940; a list of clubs can be found by accessing www.rotary9940.org.nz. Clubs are required to interview candidates prior to endorsing applications to be submitted to the District Scholarship Committee. A sponsor counsellor has to be appointed for each endorsed candidate and they are encouraged to help the candidate prepare for the District Committee selection, which will take place in Wellington in early July 2009. Completed application forms should be sent to:
