A programme of the Rotary Districts of Australia and New Zealand, ROMAC has been in operation since 1987. It provides medical treatment to children from developing countries in the form of life saving, and or, dignity restoring surgery. It is a Rotary sponsored children’s medical program.
All 23 Australian and 6 New Zealand Rotary Districts have a ROMAC representative. |
It is managed by regional committees and is supported by government, hospitals and doctors in Australia and New Zealand.
To date ROMAC has treated over 300 children from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Kiribati, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu and Vietnam. The New Zealand catchment area is generally the Pacific Island regions of interest.
Considerable assistance from the medical profession and fundraising efforts ensure no disadvantage to Australian & New Zealand children. Doctors treating the children gain skills that benefit Australian & New Zealand children.
